Join us for University of Hull Challenge –
One Quiz Master, Two Teams, an Ancient Rivalry
Labour Alumni v Conservative Alumni

Thurs 25 May | 18:00 | Civil Service Club, London
Book now >>

Join us for a fun Hull Alumni Politics version of University Challenge on the evening of Thursday 25th May. We’ll be at the Civil Service Club in London to launch our Hull to Westminster fundraising programme, supporting University of Hull students to take up internships at Westminster.

We’ll witness teams representing Labour and the Conservatives going head-to-head, facing a series of tough general knowledge questions for the purposes of our entertainment. We’re sure you know the rules by now – individuals will have the opportunity to buzz in on starter questions. If they get the question right they’ll win 10 points and their team will be able to confer over three follow up questions for 5 points each. Incorrect answers will be punished with the deduction of 5 points if the buzzer was pressed before the end of the question.

Each team will have a mixture of current students, those who benefited from the internship programme in the past and are currently working in Westminster and there will also be one or two familiar faces.

The Labour team will include former local MP Alan Johnson, who will be joining us for the evening.

The evening will be in support of continuing the success of the Hull to Westminster internships which have, over the decades, offered valuable opportunities to students. Many of these have gone on to start careers as MPs, or to take up equally important roles behind the scenes, for instance in comms and strategy.

For many students, though, these internships are out of reach due to the financial implications. At a time when we need more diverse representation in our politics, and when we need more and not fewer young people from less privileged backgrounds in Westminster, this is a valuable stepping stone to a career in politics and public affairs. That’s why we are launching our Hull to Westminster fundraising campaign, so that talented students can get valuable experience in British Politics regardless of their financial background.

  1. I’ve tried on several occasions to post re Philip Larkin who was a family friend whom my mother worked with for twenty years but I’ve yett to see one published.
    Some interesting Larkin anecdotes too.
    Can you rectify this, please.
