Exciting Opportunity at the University of Hull for Postdoctoral Researchers

The University is pleased to share an exciting opportunity for our PhD alumni: the Marie Skłodowska‑Curie Actions (MSCA) Postdoctoral Fellowships.

These highly prestigious fellowships support talented researchers in advancing their careers through international mobility, interdisciplinary research, and advanced training. Enabling researchers to conduct innovative projects abroad, expand their professional networks, and build the skills needed for long‑term research leadership; supporting these Fellowships plays an important role in strengthening the University’s visibility and reputation within the global research community.

Leading researchers from a wide range of disciplines have come forward this year to support potential applicants, reflecting the vibrant and diverse nature of our research environment. Participants include colleagues from the School of Arts and Humanities, the School of Digital and Physical Sciences, DAIM, the Wolfson Palliative Care Research Centre, the School of Environmental and Life Sciences, the Centre for Water Cultures, and teams undertaking translational biomedical research. Their involvement reinforces the University of Hull’s reputation as a welcoming and ambitious destination for international postdoctoral talent, and together these contributions demonstrate our continuing commitment to nurturing global partnerships and elevating the University of Hull’s profile on the international stage.

Interested postdoctoral researchers are invited to submit an expression of interest to their chosen supervisor by 20 April 2026.

Successful applicants will be invited to take part in a tailored programme of development activities hosted by the University in June, including online training sessions and an in‑person campus visit that will enable prospective fellows to meet their supervisors, participate in seminars, engage with our research culture, and join hands‑on writing workshops.

These activities reflect the University’s commitment to providing an enabling environment that empowers researchers to succeed while also showcasing our institutional strengths to an international audience.

Eligibility

To be eligible, candidates must hold a PhD degree by the application deadline and have no more than eight years of research experience since the date of their PhD award, excluding periods outside research, recognised career breaks, and any years of research undertaken in third countries by nationals or long‑term residents of EU Member States or Horizon Europe Associated Countries seeking to reintegrate to Europe.

Applicants must also comply with the mobility rules that ensure genuine international movement: for European Postdoctoral Fellowships, they must not have lived or conducted their main activity, such as work or study, in the host country for more than twelve months in the thirty‑six months preceding the call deadline. These rules are central to the MSCA programme’s aim of facilitating cross‑border knowledge exchange and supporting the development of globally connected researchers.

How to apply

MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships continue to provide an outstanding platform for researchers seeking to build independent careers through advanced training, interdisciplinary experience, and international exposure. Further information, including call timelines and application guidance, is available via the Marie Skłodowska‑Curie Actions Postdoctoral Fellowships website, and details about the scheme and University of Hull supervisors can be found here.
