Governors for Schools are a national charity who are committed to ensuring excellent education for children in schools across the country by supporting those schools with effective governance. There is a real need for schools in Hull, and across the UK, to bring on board School Governors from different backgrounds and with different skills.
We know that our alumni are passionate about making a difference and have are excelling across a range of sectors and job roles. That’s why the alumni team at the University of Hull are working with Governors for Schools to give you the opportunity to apply to become a School Governor.
Volunteering as a school governor is a fantastic way to broaden your skills and network, building up board-level experience and helping to set the strategic direction of a school. It’s a chance to see the impact of your decisions first-hand. When you apply you will be matched with a school that needs your skillset, and you’ll be provided with the training that you need to fulfil the role.
Since the start of the pandemic, schools have never been under more pressure, and their governors have played a key supporting role during that time. Right now, across England and Wales, there are thousands of schools looking for more people to take on the role.

I’ve just signed up to be one. The school I’m working with have designated me as the STEM link governor, given my scientific and computing background. I’m going to be working on improving the quality of STEM education within the school 🙂

Wonderful! That sounds like you are going to be making a huge difference for the children at that school. Do let us know how you get on. Did you sign up through the charity, or by some other method?
