A highly empathetic negotiator, Dr Robert J Kennett MBE has honed his communication skills in highly pressurised crisis situations that can literally be the difference between life and death. Dr Robert J Kennett MBE Bio:

Robert served with Kent Police from 1978 in a variety of challenging operational and specialist roles progressing to the rank of Chief Inspector. 

He was seconded to the Hostage and Crisis Negotiation Unit (HCNU), Specialist Crime Directorate, New Scotland Yard, London in 2008 serving as the Deputy Head. Retiring in 2009 he became the Strategic Training Manager for the HCNU responsible for the delivery of a range of both National and International Negotiation Programmes. He was elected Chair of the UK National Hostage and Crisis Negotiator Selection and Training Working Group in 2010. 

In 2013 he became the Strategic Advisor Hostage and Crisis Negotiation for Abu Dhabi Police. He has responsibility for the discipline’s strategic implementation and training across the United Arab Emirates. He retired in 2015 and formed his own training company Prometheus Communications Ltd delivering Communication and Negotiation programmes to a range of Law Enforcement, private companies, and public bodies. 

He was appointed a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) for his services to policing in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List 2009.

2010: Awarded the Eduards Kalve Memorial Prize in Education. An annual award for the outstanding Thesis in the field of Educational studies, Hull University UK 

2009: Doctorate in Education (EdD) from Hull University. 2002: Masters Degree in Education (MEd) from Hull University 

2015: Certificate for Outstanding Contribution by the United Arab Emirates Ministry of Interior. 

2012: A Lifetime achievement award by ACPO (UK Association of Chief Officers) 

2005: The Chief Constable of Kent’s Commendation for Courage, Perseverance and Professionalism. 

2002: The Queen’s Jubilee Medal
2000: The Police Long Service and Good Conduct Medal
1994: The Commander of the City of London’s Commendation for Saving a Life 1984: The Chief Constable of Kent’s Commendation for Outstanding Bravery.
