Join us for an audience with some of our most successful alumni working within the field of football. This is your opportunity to ask your questions and learn more about what it’s like to work inside the beautiful game. You will hear from alumni from Hull City, Middlesbrough, Sheffield Wednesday, Everton and Arsenal. This event will also support the work of ‘Football Unites’ a powerful initiative that unites communities through the universal language of football. Confirmed speakers include:

Liam Dooley, COO of Sheffield Wednesday

Liam Dooley (Politics, Philosophy & Economics, 2008) is the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Sheffield Wednesday Football Club. Away from a successful career in football, Liam also has a broad range of international commercial and operations experience from working with two of the World’s largest blue-chip food and beverage companies, PepsiCo and Diageo.

Ben Knapper, Loan Manager at Arsenal

Ben’s career to date has seen him occupy roles at Scunthorpe United FC, Prozone Sports Ltd, and Arsenal FC where he is currently in his fourteenth season at the club. Ben’s early professional years were spent in Performance Analysis where he built and ran Arsenal’s provision in this space. In 2019 he became Arsenal’s first ever Loan Manager, the role he currently occupies. This focusses on driving Arsenal’s strategy and execution around their utilisation of the loan system aswell as their broader player transition activities. Ben also holds a master’s degree in Sporting Directorship.

Frankie Hunter, Head of Fitness at Middlesbrough

Frankie Hunter (BSc Sport & Exercise Science, 2007; MSc Exercise Physiology 2010) is currently Head of Fitness at Middlesbrough Football Club having previously held similar roles at Southampton, Hull City & Everton. Frankie is also part of the editorial team at the FMPA which sees her involved in critiquing articles for applied & scientific rigour along suitability for the FMPA audience. 

James Hoggarth, Producer & Presenter, BBC Radio Humberside

James has worked at the BBC for over 20 years, having started at Hull’s Hospital Radio station. He’s currently the producer of 2-6 Afternoon Show as well as a cover presenter for all the shows on the output – he also recently stood in as the station’s news editor and is about to launch a sports podcast on BBC Sounds.

Sophie Johnson Read, Sports Development Manager at University of Hull Sport

I’m Sophie Johnson-Read the sports development manager at Hull Sport. I have had the pleasure working for the University since 2014 and during my time at Hull, we have seen Football grow year on year! We are incredibly proud of the Football offer we provide for students, staff and community on campus and we can only see this developing going forward. I look forward to meeting you all at the Business of Football event to share some of the fantastic football programmes we currently have on campus.
