We’re putting out the call to all University of Hull graduates across the globe: the time has come to gather and determine, once and for all, which of you are the very best of all our alumni.

On Tuesday 31 January at venues in Hull, London and Sheffield, and online for those of you unable to attend in person, we will be competing in the Beat the January Blues Quiz. The stakes have never been higher. For the winners, the envy and admiration of your fellow Hull alumni. For the losers, eternal ignominy.

In January 2021 in the depths of lockdown and pandemic despair, dozens of alumni teams competed online in a Beat the January Blues Quiz. Who could forget the kerfuffle as a few stragglers struggled to log on at the start? Who still smiles to think about the joy Brenda received from discovering the basic Microsoft Teams functions? Do you still remember how Hull 98 scored 48, narrowly beating Loten Town who only got 44? Have you struggled to sleep since because the desire for revenge burns within you?

Well then why not recreate the magic of that event with us in 2023?

And if you weren’t able to join us in 2021, fear not, because we’ll make new memories together. Teams who want to get together in Hull will be able to join us in the relaxed environment of the Arts Cafe on campus. For those of you in South Yorkshire you can get along to Sheffield Wednesday’s Hillsborough stadium. And if you’re in that London down south we’re still sorting out a venue, but we know you aren’t picky. For everyone else we’ll be streaming on Microsoft Teams so you can enjoy the cut-throat competition from the comfort of your own home.

So book now, and make plans to join in. We can’t promise it will be fun, but we can promise that one team will feel the transcendent glory of victory whilst everyone else will leave the event bitterly disappointed, angry and probably facing the bitter recriminations of their furious team mates.
