Celebrating our new cohort of alumni at the Summer 2023 Graduations

This summer we welcomed more than 3,000 new graduates to our international alumni community. Over four days at Zebidee’s Yard in Hull City Centre, we were on hand to personally greet the new graduates at our alumni stand after they had walked across the stage in the Bonus Arena.

We had prizes galore for the new graduates who had the chance to spin our miniature wheel of fortune for the opportunity to win some Hull Alumni themed goodies and, of course, the now famous Hull Alumni branded Chip Spice. A fun photo booth and a slightly more serious photographer were also on hand to get some professional looking photographs to capture the moment and some lovely memories. We were also asking graduates to put a pin in a map to show us where in the world (or the UK, or the Humberside region) they were taking their chip spice and their degree.

We were running out of space for Hull based grads on the main UK map so we printed off a local Humberside map to fit more pins in!

  1. I don’t understand.Could you kindly explain why they are called New Hull Alumni when they have been alumni of Hull fir at least three years; hence the graduation ceremony. Indeed they are effectively Ex Alumni. Yours cordially Adrian Rumble ( ex alumnus)

    1. Hi Adrian – happy to explain. The term ‘alumni’ can be a bit of a funny one as it isn’t a word we tend to encounter until we become alumni. Students are not alumni – they only become alumni upon graduating. We are the Hull Alumni Association – the association of those who studied at the University of Hull.

        I stand, humbly, corrected.
        As a bilingual in English and Spanish I had fallen into the age old “falsos amigos” trap wherein words in English sometimes are seemingly identical, usually only in appearance because if a shared latin provenance.
        Alumno/a in Spanish refers to pupils in the educational sense!
