Now the Editor of the BBC’s biggest newsroom outside the UK, Americas Bureaux Chief Paul Danahar has had a front-row seat for some of the most turbulent and troubling political events of recent times.

He’s one of a small number of journalists to have reported from all three countries that make up the so-called ‘Axis of Evil’ –  Iraq, Iran and North Korea -, he’s managed face-to-face negotiations with groups ranging from the Taliban, banned Middle-East militant groups, the North Korean government, the Chinese Communist Party, and several Middle Eastern Dictatorships. In addition, he has managed relationships with major Western Institutions and Governments, run crisis managements teams after kidnappings and death threats, and now he’s leading the BBC’s reporting on Trump’s America.

Paul’s work has been recognised with many awards including two Emmys, a Peabody and an MBE and he’s been invited to give lectures on Foreign Policy at places like LSE, Chatham House, the Middle East Institute and the US State Department.

We are delighted to welcome back University of Hull graduate Paul Danahar (Physics, 1988) for an Inspired in Hull that will take us across the globe and to the heart of current events.

In these turbulent times, when old certainties are being challenged and accepted modes of behaviour are being set aside, don’t miss this opportunity to gain a unique insight into the news behind the news.
